Homemade Italian Sausage Seasoning

Lately, we’ve been trying to source the meats we consume from closer to home. We are in the process of purchasing ¼ beef, and the chicken available to us is from relatively close by, so we are certainly getting closer to our goal of knowing where all of our food comes from. The two types of meat I’ve been having trouble sourcing are 1) lamb and 2) pork. A couple of weeks ago, however, we were at a local co-op, and I found some locally raised pork! When I announced that I would make my own homemade Italian sausage seasoning, my husband was pretty ecstatic, to say the least. We hadn’t had breakfast sausage or really any sort of pork in nearly a year (Excluding the occasional uncured bacon from Costco because of pregnancy/breastfeeding cravings).

I decided to purchase several pounds of ground pork to make my own breakfast and Italian sausages since I wasn’t happy with any of the ingredients in the pre-seasoned versions. You could easily prep this seasoning in a bulk. It would be great to have some premade in your spice cabinet. Alternatively, season your ground meat and freeze it as a quick protein.

Stick around and I’ll share my homemade Italian sausage seasoning recipe with you below! Use this seasoning along with pork, beef, or chicken to create all sorts of recipes. We used this homemade Italian sausage seasoning with 1 pound of pork to make a quick “spaghetti”. It was a quick delicious dinner using a premade sauce and dried pasta from Costco. Make a quick side of roasted veggies (Brussel sprouts & bell peppers for us!) and dinner is served!

To make roasted veggies, wash and cut veggies in similar sizes. Drizzle with high-smoke point oil, sprinkle with salt, and season to taste. Then, roast at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes. Serve warm!

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a snapshot of the finished product. An active baby and busy night led to mama forgetting to photograph before digging in. No worries, though, it was delicious and I can’t recommend it enough!
